A Simple Guide to Keep wasps away this Summer

A Simple Guide to Keep wasps away this Summer

We understand that a wasp nest in your home or garden is not ideal, especially if you have family members that are allergic to wasps or even worse their stings. They are without a doubt a nuisance when you are trying to enjoy your day. The best way to prevent unpleasant encounters with social wasps is to avoid him. So, if you know where they are, try to not go near their nesting places. Wasps can be very defensive when their nest is disturbed due to their chemical communication. As wasps and bees release an alarm pheromone that marks their target and alerts the colony to attack. So, here is a couple of ways to prevent wasps from nesting around your home.

Remove Food Sources

In summer, wasps get attracted to foods that contain protein in them. Any type of food that is left outdoors, such as picnic scraps, leftovers from breakfast, lunch and dinner or uncovered compost piles that should be removed or covered. Wasps will continue to search an area over a period of time from when the food has been removed.

Avoid Contact with Wasps

Swatting or for example trying to kill the wasps will result very badly as you’re just making them more angry and defensive, when a wasp is squashed a chemical called pheromone is released which attracts and incites other nearby wasps so here at Optical Facilities our advice for you is to walk away and let the professionals take care of the rest.

Create a Fake Habitat

Building a fake nest will trick territorial wasps into believing that other wasps already live in that area, as most wasps will avoid building a nest within a few hundred feet of another nest. So, setting out traps in the early spring and summer will reduce the amount of wasps and it’s the most efficient and effective way.
